It might involve rumors or images posted on someone’s profile or passed around for other people to see.

  7. Cyberbullying is a lose-lose proposition: it often makes the person being harassed feel bad, and it always makes the bully look bad. It also might lead to punishment from school authorities or the police. • Cyberbullying is impacting schools dramatically...

  8. What can you do to protect your adolescent? • If cyberbullying is taking place on your adolescent’s facebook page, block the person who is abusing the website. • If the abuser is circulating information from his/her particular webpage, contact facebook and report the abuse...if abuse is impacting student achievement, as already stated, school administrators or the local police may punish the abuser.

  9. Suggestions from FCMS Counselors... • Make sure the privacy settings are on the highest setting to protect your adolescent. • If you suspect that your adolescent is suffering from cyberbullying: • Make sure to monitor your adolescent’s time on facebook as well as keeping the computer in a centralized location. Monitor his/her account.- FRIEND HIM/HER !!!!

  11. Block anyone who is posting negative comments. • If your adolescent seems to be in a constant state of turmoil...consider deleting the account altogether. • We have found that a lot of parents are totally unaware of the time, content of material, and “types” of conversations their adolescent is involved in.

  12. Help FCMS to help keep your adolescent safe!

  13. Make sure your adolescent doesn’t share his/her password with ANYONE!!!! • False postings....

  14. facebook • Recap: • facebook is a social networking website • Students love to share information • It’s our job as parents, grandparents, and/or guardians to keep them safe
