Planting the Flag Coming soon… Insight Report on ‘Digital Delivery’ Digital Insights principles in practice www.socitm.net

How does a digital strategy sit in relation to a traditional ICT strategy? • As an organisation’s business and ICT strategies must align at multiple levels… … so too must digital strategies align at organisational and ICT department levels … • An organisation’s digital strategy is but a part of its wider business strategy. • An organisation’s ICT strategy, delivered by its ICT unit, should be seen to support these higher-level business and digital strategies. • The digital strategy is not the ICT strategy... Consequences for ICT leaderships? www.socitm.net
Leading questions… • Should Socitm members be ‘digital leaders’? • Is it different for members in large versus small organisations? • Signals from outside? • Scenario: Appointment of a ‘digital leader(ship)’ with limited ICT expertise and not located in the ICT unit • Signals a desire for a wider digital strategy for the business as a whole • ‘They’ believe it really is about more than just ICT • Begging…. • How best to engage proactively with such non-ICT digital leaderships and deliver value into the common agenda? • Can the organisation ‘do digital’ without the current ICT function’s engagement at all? www.socitm.net
What is the leadership role here now? • Develop good radar for ICT-enabled productivity enhancement and digital transformation opportunities • Lead and influence by example in evaluating the value of digital methods and practices for my ICT function itself • Allocate some resources to evaluating digital methods and practices • What are the consequences for my ICT function of not being in the vanguard of digital innovation? • Sharing learning through Socitm www.socitm.net
