Student – Argosy University (Presently writing dissertation for completion of program) • 2009-2010 SMS Teacher of the Year • 7 years tenure at Shiloh Middle School and tenured teacher in Gwinnett County Public Schools • 10 years tenure for the State of North Carolina • 17 years total as a Middle School Teacher • Middle Grades Math, Language Arts, & Science Certified
1st Semester Curriculum 6th Grade Math • Data analysis • Number theory and operations • Algebra • Fraction fundamentals and operations • Ratios/ proportions and percents
Homework/ Frequency & Expectations • Will be given nightly, Monday through Thursday • Expected to be completed in full that night • Will be collected periodically (5% of grade) • Will not be accepted late for credit • Usually 15-20 minutes per night, often have time to start in class • Students should always use the agenda book to write down the assignment. • Homework site updated daily with class work & homework

Promotion Criteria For promotion to 7th Grade : • A student enrolled in 6th grade must pass four of five subjects for the school year, with Connections classes being averaged as one grade each semester. (First semester grades are the average of progress report grades for the 1st and 2nd nine weeks. Second semester grades are the average from the 3rd and 4th nine weeks.) Language Arts and Mathematics must be two of the four subjects passed each semester.* • Should a student not earn promotion to 7th grade, he or she will have the opportunity to attend summer school to learn the AKS not demonstrated during the school year.
Grading Policy • Grades are finalized on a semester basis ( Dec & May) • Grades are cumulative and weighted • School-Wide Academic Grading Percentages: • 40% Classroom Assessments - quizzes, daily work, homework - no more than 5 percent of total grade • 5% Interim Assessments - required district generated assessments provided by the Assessment Office • 45% Summative Assessments - teacher generated unit tests, major assignments, research papers • 10% Comprehensive Final Exam - teacher generated assessment or required district generated • assessments provided by the Assessment Office
Holt Math Course 1 • Textbook is accessible from any computer my.hrw.com • Live Tutorials • Worksheets • Textbooks will remain at home for the school year to be used as a resource; for examples, extra practice, and studying for quizzes and tests.
