What You Need to Know • Covers Pre-Colombian to 21st Century • RIGOROUS – Equivalent to 1st year college course • Fulfills U.S. History requirement • Fulfills U.S. History course for A-G requirements • One less class to take in college! • Plus, it’s fun!
How Can My Student Pass the Class? • Attend Class • Participate – ask questions • Be respectful • Students must participate in their study groups • Turn that work in to be graded • Actually STUDY for a test! • Enjoy learning new stuff
How Can I Help My Child? • Encourage Them! • Make sure they have a quiet place to study at home • Monitor your child’s progress, but don’t hover! • Encourage Them! • Let them make mistakes – that’s how they learn
My Philosophy • Every child can pass this class • Every child has the ability to learn • Juniors need to learn to speak for themselves and make mistakes • The student who doesn’t pass with an A, B, or C is the student who fails to do all required readings, doesn’t work in their group, and doesn’t study! • They CHOSE to take this course.
Work • Homework is every night, including weekends • Outlining chapter notes and primary source documents • Soon I will add in Chapter summaries and essays • Time? 1-2 hours per night • Students need to learn to manage their time – LATE work is not accepted • In class – lecture, discussions, activities, movies, projects
