Final preparations Muon magnets closed HBD installed EC rolling in today John Haggerty
Still to do with help from CAD • Carpenters and riggers (EC platforms, shield wall) • Magnet test • Safety system checkout (Jan 20-23) • Sign-off on flammable gas ~Jan 27 • IR and tunnel access configured for Run 9? John Haggerty
RPC work in tunnel • Electronics still to be installed in south tunnel • We’re trying to finish up as much as possible by Jan 30, but we’ll almost certainly need access to the tunnel after that • We’re aware of ODH-1 training requirements • We’ll have an adequate supply of Personal Oxygen Monitors? John Haggerty
Muon cosmic ray run • We start shifts Jan 27 with a muon cosmic ray run • We would like to operate the north and south muon magnets during much of the startup time John Haggerty
Controlling systematic errors in asymmetries We have been designing our trigger mix to optimize our physics output, but we have to make sure that the systematic errors are under control at the same level • The spin flipper is an important ingredient in controlling systematic errors, so we need to understand what is likely to be available in this run • Re-cogging one of the beams could also potentially be a tool • We’re looking at our measurement of relative luminosity at high rate (note that at a luminosity of 1.8x1032 cm-2 cm-1 the probability of 2 interactions per crossing is ~30%) John Haggerty
