SAFER Driving • Racing • Since 2001, there have been zero deaths in NASCAR’s three National Series • Fire-retardant clothing, including underwear and gloves (DuPont’s NOMEX) • Soft wall technology: SAFER Barrier • Helmets required for over-the-wall pit crew • HANS (head and neck support) device (DuPont’s Kevlar) • Teenage Driving • Since 2001, there have been over 100,000 deaths of 16-24 year olds when young people are driving • Teenage crash and death rates are the highest of all drivers • 3 out of every 5 teenage traffic deaths are passengers in cars driven by teenagers • Deaths of male drivers and passengers is almost two times that of females
