1. Hello, this is Marcie Kea, Principal of Shivela Middle School with an important message for 8th grade students and their families. As you know, our 8th grade promotion is Monday afternoon. The event will be held at Murrieta Mesa High School at 3:00 p.m. All students need to check in at 2:30 pm. Since promotion will be held on a different campus, I want to take a moment to share a few reminders regarding the event. • Monday morning from 9 to 11am is a mandatory promotion practice on Shivela’s MPR. Please be sure that your child is here and on time. If your student needs to leave early, please pick them up after 11 am. • At 2:15 pm we will open the gates at Murrieta Mesa for parents and family members. Due to Mesa’s dismissal –we will not be able to open the gates any earlier than 2:15 so please plan accordingly. • Students need to check in at 2:30 with our staff on the field. • Parking is available at Murrieta Mesa, but there are a limited number of spaces. If possible, we strongly encourage you to carpool and/or limit the number of cars in your party. • We do not recommend arriving before 2:15 – as the students from Mesa will be exiting the parking lot. • Please remember that the Shivela dress code still applies at promotion. The only exception is we are allowing dresses with spaghetti straps, but strapless gowns are not allowed. • Please remember that spiked heels cannot be worn, as they are prohibited on Murrieta Mesa’s track and field where the students will be seated. Any students wearing spiked heels will not be allowed on the field. • Please note that parents and family members will not be allowed to go on to the field. Parents, if you wish to take pictures with your child, please plan on doing so before your student enters the field or after he or she returns to the stands. • There will be a professional photographer on the field during promotion to take photographs of students as they walk across the stage, and these pictures will be available for purchase. • Water will be on sale during promotion for $1 per bottle. All proceeds will benefit Shivela’s PALS program. • If you will require special assistance during promotion, such as wheelchair reserved seating, please contact Mrs. Shockley in Student Services so we can plan to better assist you. • Please be sensitive when saving seats, as we are anticipating a full house. • For your convenience, I have included a map for parking. • Finally, no balloons will be allowed at the promotion.
