Phi Eta Sigma History • Founded in 1923, University of Illinois • 3rd society to be voted into the Association of College Honor Societies in 1937 • Oldest and largest honors society for first year college and university students in all disciplines • 975,000+ members inducted in PES • 365+ chapters organized across the U.S.
Phi Eta Sigma History • Mission: To encourage and reward academic excellence among freshman in institutions of higher learning. • ΦΗΣ = Knowledge Is Power!
Membership Information • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.5/4.0 scale at the end of any first year, full-time curricular period, provided they have carried a normal academic load acceptable toward a bachelor’s degree and rank in the upper 20 percent of their class. • Life-time membership is conferred upon induction, and maintaining the grade-point average is not required.
Membership Information Pending Members (you guys!): Active members: 1 fundraiser 4 general credits Must be completed each semester after you are inducted in order to stay “active.” • 2 community service credits • 2 academic credits • 1 social credit • 1 fundraiser • 1 general credit • Must be completed by the last day of fall semester classes (December 10)

Bottle Drive • Bring in returnable recyclables to Jen • In a bag with your name and how many • Must bring in at least 100 to receive 1 general credit • Last day to hand in bottles at Dec. 3 general meeting • Prize will be given to top recycler • This is NOT mandatory (but what’s better than helping the environment / PES AND winning some prizes?)
Extra CreditsAttend ALL General Meetings for the semester and receive 1 general creditParticipate in the Bottle Drive by turning in at least 100 returnables and receive 1 general credit

Scholarships • National: • 1 Thomas Arkle Clark Scholar-Leader of-the-Year Scholarship of $10,000 • 4 Distinguished Member Scholarships of $7,500 each for the first year of full-time graduate or professional study • 35 Distinguished Member Scholarships of $6,000 each for full-time undergraduate study • Additional $1,000 awards for full-time undergraduate study
