Executive Summary • Third charter renewal petition for Aspire Vincent Shalvey Academy being submitted for the period from July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2019. • The Charter agreement is similar to the prior 2009 charter renewal petition and contains all of the legally required elements. • Currently, VSA is a “9” in Similar Schools Rank and a “10” in State Rank, derived from the 2012 STAR results. The 2013 ranking is not yet available.

  3. Executive Summary (Cont.) • 2013 API brings VSA to 917, an almost 300 point increase from its opening year. Since its last renewal in 2009, the school has remained in the 900 range. • The school’s name was changed from University Public School to Aspire Vincent Shalvey Academy in 2010. • In 2010, VSA received the CA Distinguished Schools Award for the second time. • VSA was named one of the top 10 Charter Schools in California by a USC study.

VSA meets the legal requirements for renewal as set forth in Education Code §47607. 1) Ranked in deciles 4 to 10, inclusive, on the API in the prior year or in two of the last three years; and 2) Ranked in deciles 4 to 10, inclusive, on the API for a demographically comparable school in the prior year or in two of the last three years.
