  2. Causes of Exploration • 1. Europeans want more goods from Asia. • 2. Rulers of European countries want ways to increase their wealth. • 3. European nations want to find a route to Asia. • 4. Columbus reaches the Americas.

  3. Effects of Exploration • 1. Spain builds an empire in the Americas • 2. English, French, and Dutch set up colonies in North America. • 3. Millions of Native Americans die from European diseases. • 4. African slave trade begins. • 5. Foods from the Americas are introduced into Europe

  4. Reasons for Exploration and Colonization • England-settle the land, make money and find gold, religious freedom • France-trade with the Native Americans • Spain-God, gold, and glory • Netherlands (Dutch)-Trade with Native Americans

  5. All countries came to compete with one another!!!!

  6. Risks of Travel/Exploring • 1. Weather/storms could sink a ship, throw a ship off course causing starvation and death • 2. Disease • 3. Attacks • 4. Losing everything that you had in the past in order to have a better/brighter future!!!!!!!
