Why Use SharePoint? • “Only a Browser is Required” tool (cross-platform, too!) • Access your content from anywhere • Secure – NetID authentication, granular access controls • Powerful indexing/search features • Email integration – email-enabled lists/libraries and alerts • Integration with MS Office Suite • Tools arsenal: • SharePoint Designer (Formerly FrontPage) • Windows Live Writer • MS Outlook 2007 • MS InfoPath • MS Groove
History of SharePoint @ UVM • Summer 2004 – SharePoint Services v2 setup as a “demo” • Spring 2005 – CTL staff assist faculty in setting up project sites, thus making SharePoint “production”. • 2005-2006 – Service usage increases slowly, with about 50 sites in active use. • Jan 1, 2007 – sharepoint.uvm.edu upgraded to v3, usage triples in one year. • Summer 2007 – RADEditor from telerik.com added to improve support for Firefox and Safari browsers • Today – Over 200 sites created
