POLICY FRAMEWORK (1/2) Already set out & being implemented: FP7 Specific Programme ‘Cooperation’ themes, sub-themes & activities The European Economic Recovery Plan EGCI The Marine & Maritime Research Strategy The ocean of tomorrow The Lund Declaration grand challenges The Political guidelines of President Barroso for the new Commission decarbonising the transport sector Europe 2020 7 flagship initiatives Innovation Union Resource efficient Europe

POLICY FRAMEWORK (2/2) Under preparation or to be implemented: The New Transport White Paper main framework for Transport policy The Strategic Transport Technology Plan (STTP)  clearer long term technology perspective better management of innovation pathways stronger alignment of research, innovation and transport policies Next Framework Programme (FP8) What should be funded? Which delivery modes? A policy paper for FP8 will be issued early 2011 Smooth transition towards FP8

KEY ASPECTS A multi-annual strategy the period 2012-13to ensure a balanced approach & complementarity among Calls Coherence Policy framework (new elements) Comply with commitments (SP, EGCI, JTIs) Complementarity & synergy Review of previous calls JTIs: Clean Sky, SESAR, FCH Other themes/actions Planning & budget for 2012-2013 2 main calls for each AAT & SST; 1 call for TPT? Indicative budget for 2012-2013: ~ 600 M€ (~ 320 for 2012)

Share between Level-1 & Level-2 in WP2012 and WP2013 50:50 at the end of FP7 Introduction of Level-0 incubate new fundamental knowledge & disruptive ideas strong potential for innovation Level-1 + CSA-CA Activities & areas to open?
