1Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2 He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ • 4 “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, • 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me… (cont’d) • --Luke 18:1-8 (NIV)
…I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’” • 6 And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. • 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” • --Luke 18:1-8 (NIV)
And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ • --Luke 18:3 (NIV)
6-7Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. • --Philippians 4:6-7 (MSG)
But I cry to you for help, LORD; in the morning my prayer comes before you. • --Psalm 88:13 (NIV)
2Be persistent and devoted to prayer, being alert and focused in your prayer life with an attitude of thanksgiving. • 3 At the same time pray for us, too, that God will open a door [of opportunity] to us for the word, to proclaim the mystery • of Christ, for which I have been imprisoned… • --Colossian 4:2-3 (AMP)
And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? • --Luke 18:7 (NIV)
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. • --Romans 12:12 (NIV)
4“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’” • --Luke 18:4-5 (NIV)
“A Child of God never prays to be conscious that God answers prayer, he is so restfully certain that God always does answer prayer” • --Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest--
14This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. • --1 John 5:14-15 (NIV)
26And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. • --Romans 8:26-28 (NLT)
22“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” • --Mark 11:22-25 (NIV)
