  2. -AR Verbs • As you know, an “INFINITIVE” in English is the not-conjugated verb: • To dance, to swim, to run. • In Spanish, an INFINITIVE ends in -AR, -ER, or –IR. • For now, we will focus on the –AR verbs. The easiest ones! 

  5. -AR Verbs • Unlike SER, ESTAR, and TENER, the -AR verbs that you are about to learn all follow the same rules. • Which means your life will be a lot easier. • You only have to learn the endings, and you will be able to conjugate ANY regular –AR verb in the present tense!!!!!

  6. -AR Verbs • To CONJUGATE a regular –AR verb in the present tense, all you have to do is remove the –AR ending and add the appropriate ending. • First, remove the “–ar.” You are left with the ROOT. • Bailar – ar = Bail • Hablar – ar = Habl • Ayudar – ar = Ayud • Estudiar – ar = Estudi

  9. -AR Verbs • Here are our roots from before. • Bailar – ar = Bail • Hablar – ar = Habl • Ayudar – ar = Ayud • Estudiar – ar = Estudi

  10. -AR Verbs • Let’s conjugate them! • Bailar in the “yo” form: • Bailar – ar = Bail + o = Bailo. • Yo bailo. = I dance. • Yo form: Hablar  Habl + o = Hablo Yo hablo. = I talk.

  11. -AR Verbs • Estudiar in the “tú” form. • Estudiar – ar = estudi + as = estudias. • Tú estudias. = You study.

  12. -AR Verbs Escuchar in the “ella” form: Escuchar – ar = Escuch + a = Escucha. Ella escucha = She listens.

  13. -AR Verbs • Mirar in the “nosotros” form: • Mirar – ar = Mir + amos = Miramos. Nosotros miramos = We watch.

  14. -AR Verbs • Preparar in the “ellos” form: • Preparar – ar = Prepar + an = Preparan Ellos preparan = they prepare.
