Commonly Overused Words • Anemic Adjectives – • good, pretty, nice, big • Substitute Awesome Adjectives – • excellent, lovely, kind, humongous • Vague Verbs – • said, walked • Substitute Vivid Verbs – • exclaimed, whispered, murmured, skipped, ambled • Napping Nouns – • house, dog, car • Substitute No-Nonsense Nouns – • mansion, canine, mini-van

  6. Your Turn • Use a variety of interesting VIVID ACTION VERBS to make your 3 wishes response more lively. • Take a look at your 3 wishes written response. Go back and underline all the action verbs and circle the helping and linking verbs. • Directions: Trade with your table partner and revise his/her paper. On a separate sheet of loose-leaf, write vivid verbs they can use to get rid of all linking verbs.
