RELATED & COMPOUND WORDS We use prefixes or suffixes to create related words: library librarian stories storyteller* When we put two words together to create a new word, we call it a compound word: story + teller = storyteller arm + rest = armrest
CONTRACTIONS When we put two words together to create a shorter version of that word, we leave out a letter or letters. We use an apostrophe to show which letter(s) are left out.
