  4. Kingston Bursaries 2015/16**Figures are provisional and subject to approval by theOffice for Fair Access, so are subject to change. The Kingston Bursary is worth £2,000 for the first year of your course. Progression scholarships of up to £1,500 will be awarded in second and third years of study dependent upon successful progression through your course and your grades. To be eligible you must meet the following criteria: • Hold a firm offer to study at Kingston • Be eligible to receive student finance • Household income assessed as £25,000 or less • Have not studied at university level before • Neither parents hold a university-level qualification or you are a mature student

  5. Compact Scheme The Compact Scheme at Kingston University offers an enhanced package of support, advice and guidance as well as a single point of contact from pre application to graduation. To be eligible for the scheme you must meet one of the following: • You are the first generation in your family to progress to higher education • (i.e. your parents have not been to university) • Mature learners (aged 21 or over when you start your course) • Household income of below £45k • History of social care • Care leaver For further information please contact the Compact Scheme: E: compact@kingston.ac.uk

What do we do? • Co-ordinate KU’s contact with schools/colleges • Promote awareness of university study, raise aspirations and provide IAG for students aged 10-18 • Provide curriculum support and attainment raising activities • Inform key influencers- parents • Offer training for school/college staff

Outreach and Widening participation: What we do and why • Work with over 100 schools/colleges (London + S/E) • Last year worked with over 6,000 students • Educate young people about the benefits of Higher Education • Raise aspirations in pupils from underrepresented groups in HE: First in family, low household income, looked-after children, BME groups, mature students. • We aim to build confidence and work with schools to help learners achieve • Provide impartial HE advice and guidance to help those students making the progression to HE

Targeting the right students • We want to work with students who have traditionally been under-represented in higher education and who have the potential to benefit from our activities and events. • Learners: • Who are the first in their family to go to university • From lower socio-economic backgrounds • From minority ethnic groups • Under local authority care/care leavers • With a disability • Studying a vocational qualification

  18. HE Talks • Can be any length • Tailored to the audience • On a variety of topics • Interactive and engaging • Often supported by student ambassadors
