  10. 1950’s • Cuba starts to disintegrate • University of Havana students riot • They arm themselves • Fidel Castro emerges • Corruption of Cuba grows • Batista elected into senate • Batista’s returns • Tries to run for president in 1948 • Batista see’s polls of presidential election • Batista stages a coup • Overthrows Prio • Batista’s ruling style turns into dictatorship • Press muzzled • University closed • Military dictatorship declared
