Format for the first month: • Wednesday lecture/discussions 6-7 pm with different StudyCom teachers • Recorded lectures each week (you can attend if you have time) with different StudyCom teachers • Pre-lecture readings or websites to examine • Post-lecture written discussion
Why online? • It works • It’s fun and fulfilling for students and teachers • There is a demand for it worldwide • It can be folded into traditional classrooms
Why Online Part II • Some skills can improve faster online (which, iyo?) • It has greater reach than traditional (in what way, iyo?) • It has greater depth than traditional (because of what, iyo?) • It allows for small group work (try it!)
Why Online Part III • Most important: you can teach or attend class in your pyjamas… or even sans pyjamas!
Follow-up • Please post your thoughts on the pros and cons of online teaching. In particular discuss if you could see yourself as an online teacher. • Check Nicenet for other pre- and post- lecture materials • See you next week!
