  3. Rock and Roll Connection • Learned to play guitar in prison • Developed small following of people • attracted to his music and philosophy • hippie lifestyle • traveled up and down west coast • introduced to Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys

  4. Dennis Wilson • Member of the Beach Boys • Manson hung out and stayed at Wilson's house with members of the Manson “Family” • Introduced Manson to members of entertainment business • Paid for recording sessions

  5. Helter Skelter • Preached Helter Skelter • inevitable race war that would lead to annihilation of the white race • except for the family which would survive underground • Inspired by the Beatles song, "Helter Skelter" • Apocalyptic world • moved to Spahn's movie ranch • later to Death valley

  6. Tate-LaBiancaMurders • Charles Manson shot Bernard "LotsaPoppa" Crowe • black drug dealer • believed this would start Helter Skelter

  7. Sent members of the family to home of Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski • committed brutal and gruesome murders of 5 people • 7-month pregnant Tate and the heir to the Folger's coffee fortune • similar murder took place at home of Leno LaBianca • Manson present at these murders

  8. Aftermath and Trial • Manson and many other members convicted of murder • Manson first sentenced to death • changed to life in prison • Has been denied parole 11 times • Up for parole again in 2012
