What are we learning about? • Number sense, Multiplication • Narrative writing • Roots of democracy • Rocks & Minerals • Reading—individually, small group, as class
Transition to Common Core Reading, Writing, and Math Workshop • Opening (15-20 minutes) • Work Time (25-30 minutes) • Closing (10-15 minutes)
Rewards & Consequences • The students have the opportunity to earn “behavior bucks” and may trade them in for a reward. • Negative choices are recorded on the “Behavior” check-list. • You will receive an update every week in their Kemp folder
Market Day • At the end of each nine weeks, the entire 3rd grade will participate in Market Day. • Students have the opportunity to earn behavior bucks in the classroom on a daily basis. • At different times during the nine weeks, students will deposit their money into their checking account. They will have check registers to deposit their money. • Market Day will be a day for students to use the economics skills we have studied. • Students will be able to buy and sell items with the money that they have earned over the past nine weeks. • After Market Day, students will deposit their proceeds from the day back into their checking accounts.
3rd Graders • ITBS in Sept 18-20, 23-27 • CRCT in April • Programs to support standards: Study Island, Skills Tutor, First in Math
Conference Week & Report Cards • Conference Week will be during the week of • October 21-25, 2013. • Report cards will be sent home at the end of each nine week grading period. • Third Grade will continue with the Standards Based Report Cards this year. • Look for graded papers coming home on Wednesday evenings.
Attendance and Dismissal Policy • Prompt arrival and regular attendance is vital to your child’s success in third grade. (no emails for change of dismissal. Please call the office) • Please send a note from home if there is an absence or change in dismissal. • Car Pool Policy • Safe Rider Bus Program (yellow tags) • We cannot release students to parents without an appropriate slip from the office if we are outside of the classroom. • There will be no dismissals after 2:00 p.m.
Clinic and Medication Policies • ALL medications must be sent to the clinic in the original container. • Please visit Ms. Scurry’s blog to print off medication forms.
Cafeteria Information • Menus are available on the Kemp website. • New Prices Breakfast: • Student: $1.25 • Adult: $1.50 Lunch: • Student: $2.15 • Adult: $3.00 • Lunches may be pre-paid. • No fast food is permitted.
Snack/Birthdays • Please send your child with a healthy (snack and bottled water daily. (No junk food) • You are welcome to send in birthday treats for the class. Please make sure all treats are precut and ready to serve. These treats may be served at lunch. • During testing I would love to have special snacks made to help the students relax
