BMI (Body Mass Index) • A measurement of the relative percentages of fat and muscle mass in the human body, in which weight in kilograms is divided by height in meters and the result used as an index of obesity.
Calorie • A unit of measure for the amount of energy released when the body breaks down food. The quantity of thermal energy required to raise one gram of water 1°C at 15°C.
Carbohydrates • Any of certain organic compounds including the sugars, starches and celluloses, Cx(H2O)y, which supply energy to the body
Cholesterol • A fatty substance (lipid) found in animal tissue and fat. It functions chiefly as a protective agent in the skin and myelin sheaths of nerve cells, a detoxifier in the bloodstream, and as a precursor of many steroids.
Dietitian • A person who is an expert in nutrition or dietetics
Fats • Any of various solid or semisolid oily or greasy materials found in animal tissue and in the seeds of plants
