ITC in aTM • A fragile, but growing, sector • 78 companies (50 in the triangle + 19 in Chaves) • Around 300 people (5 to 6 per company) • Young (95% less than 40 yr) • 30% high education, 69% full secondary level • only 9 companies in sw and 5 in training • 1 to 2 M€ turnover (2003) (services: 20 %) • >90% in the region • 84% says High Education has been important or very important for the region development • Main limiting factor: market (77%), human resource (30%), financial (30%)

  17. 10 plus one reasons • Qualified manpower available • Lower cost of qualified manpower (25 to 50% less) • No local rivalry in the sector (stability) • Multilingual capabilities and favorable spelling • Facilities for local training and education • Good quality and affordable local property markets • Fully digital telecom infrastructure (largely fiber cabled) • Good accessibilities by land and air (closest portuguese cities to Central Europe) • A good and improving quality of life in a clean natural environment • Regional bonus for incentives for investment and training • Strong local leadership and commitment
