Facts and Figures • The agency is part of the Danish Ministry of Culture • Established 1st January 2012 by a merger of 3 agencies (Cultural Heritage, Arts, Libraries and Media) • Staff: almost300 • Yearly budget in total (2014) about 4,8 billion DKK (EUR 643m). • Division for libraries – staff: 18

Danish Agency for Culture - Libraries • Providing services for ministers and departments in the field of libraries, including the field of public information • Exercising authority with respect to the field of libraries • Responsibility for the national bibliographic registration • Responsibility of Bibliotek.dk (Library.dk) – database with items of Danish public and research libraries • Administering grants and secretariat services in the field of libraries • Strategic development in collaboration with the library sector

Does the functions of the librarychange? – from culturalcontact point to delivery of well-fare service • Citizens service – come to the library and have your new passport or driver’slicense • About 60% of the libraries have some kind of taskswithincitizens service

  10. Making a Reading Campaign

Competitionwithin the municipalites In March 2014 12 Danish municipalities (of 98) were awarded the title “reading municipalities” by an independent jury, based on their creative and innovative reading activities. In May 2015 the jury will choose the winner of the competition and the most effective methods and best practices will be shared and implemented on a larger scale.

The purpose of the Danish DigitalLibrary (DDL) • To make the collective digital public library services stronger, more visible and more efficient • To strengthen the Danish public libraries’ potential for sharing and communicating electronic medias, such as e-books and other net based materials

The Danish Digital Library • Founded in November 2012  • A binding collaboration between Local Government Denmark (LGDK) and The Ministry of Culture • 97 of Denmark's 98 municipalities are engaged in the collaboration – covering 90 % of the Danish population • Works primarily with the areas: digital communication, digital infrastructure and purchasing
