  2. TheAssignment • You are Zebra. Write a personal letter to John Wilson. • Your letter should include one or all of the following: • Respond to the letter he sent to you. • Share your thoughts about the art class. What it meant to you, what you learned, or how it made a difference in your life. • Explain the connection you felt toward him. Included in this should be why you created the art drawings/objects that you presented in class.

Things to Remember • Your writing should be clear, concise, and coherent. • Remember what the purpose of the letter is • Your letter should be organized and should use effective transitions between sentences to unify important ideas. • All statements and thoughts must be supported with anecdotes, descriptions, facts, and/or specific examples. • The letter should exhibit written English language conventions, i.e., proper sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.

  4. Prewriting Organize your thoughts on this chart before beginning your letter to John Wilson.

  5. A personal letter should include: • A heading that contains your street address, town or city, state and ZIP code, and the date you wrote the letter. • A salutation that begins with a capital letter and is followed by a comma. • A body that is written in an informal, conversational tone. • A closing that begins with a capital letter and is followed by a comma. • Your signature under the closing.
