News Writing Do's and Don'ts
Basic Rules • "Jacob said" not "Said Jacob" • It is very important to establish a style and be consistent • Always refer to your AP Style book when in doubt • Use more than 1 source and use more than 1 side of the story • Find an angle that keeps the reader interested. It is about them, not you.
"." and "?" will always get the job done Never include your opinion unless it is an opinion article Do not include personal statements or lead the audience to think like you. You are telling a story, you are not entertaining the reader The reader wants the facts, shape the story but do not effect the story. Remain Neutral Get rid of the explanation points!!!
