  3. What is a disciple? • The word disciple refers to a student • Basically a disciple is one who follows • When Jesus called his disciples, they began going everywhere he went and doing everything he did. • It is IMPOSSIBLE to follow someone and not end up being like them.

What is a disciple? • Yet how many people do you know who call themselves a Christian, who aren’t like CHRIST? • Many associated with the church have only taken the name of Christ and nothingelse • The concept of being a disciple isn’t difficult to understand, but it affects EVERYTHING! (Umbrella Effect)

  5. How do I become a disciple? • Matthew 4:17, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” • Repent means to turn • How do we prepare for the King? We repent

  6. How do I become a disciple? • Romans 3:23, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” • Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death • Romans 5:8, “But God shows his love for us in while we were still sinners, Christ died for us

  7. How do I become a disciple? • Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved • Turning away from sin, and towardsChrist • Christ has accomplished everything, there is nothing we can do to gain salvation

  8. The Lord of Grace • Salvation is all about the grace of God • Ephesians 2:8-9, “By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” • Salvation means you trust Christ to be Lord • Problem: Many want to confess that Jesus is Lord, yet don’t believe that He is their Master

It all comes down to love • Follow Jesus boils down to two commands: 1.You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 2.You shall love your neighbor as yourself • Following Christ is not about following rules, but about loving God and enjoying him • If you love God, you will keep his commandments (John 14:15)
