Introduction: The GBV Forum was set up on 24th August 2005 following a consultation with selected agencies working on gender–based violence (GBV) issues, in order to facilitate greater coordination, understanding & sharing of information & resources and strengthen multi-sectoral responses to GBV The membership of the forum is broad-based including local NGOs, International NGOs, UN agencies, donor agencies and Government representation
Objectives of GBVF • To serve as a mechanism for enhanced coordination and collaboration on GBV related work in Sri Lanka and strengthen collective efforts to end GBV • To create a forum for regular sharing of resources, information and experience on implementing programmes relating to GBV • To strengthen multi-sectoral response to GBV by promoting integrated strategic approaches to GBV
Scope of work • Share comprehensive and broad-based information on GBV • Encourage collaboration and partnerships in developing common training modules and material; sharing trainers; and conducting awareness/training programmes, advocacy campaigns, research projects, etc. • Develop an inventory of resources available: list of trainers, researchers, consultants, publications, training manuals and tools, etc
The way forward: 2009/10 • 16 days of activism – “We can end violence against women – Commit- act-demand” • “Men can make a difference” • Thematic seminars, workshops during this period eg: GBV and Conflict, GBV and HIV, GBV and policies • Advocacy • Media Campaign • Conduct regional level programmes • Work with the private sector
