INIS – the first nuclear database at the IAEA (1970) INIS – a pioneer in knowledge preservation (NCL activities since 1970;digitization of IAEA documents since 2003) INIS – the first DB with online access (1978) The IAEA Nuclear Knowledge Management activities started at the INIS Section (2002). IAEA NKM Programme started in 2004 INIS & AGRIS – the first databases on CD-ROM at the IAEA (1991) INIS Web Site – the first Web Site at the IAEA (1996) INIS - the first DB available on the Internet at the IAEA (1998) INIS was always the first in technology: DAP

  5. INIS Personal Reference DB Google Scholar/INIS INIS DB became searchable directly from “Personal Bibliographic Reference Management” applications “Bookends” • Bookends • Docear • EndNote • Mendeley • Zotero • … These are very efficient tools for students and young scientists & researchers!!

INIS for Russian Students It is planned that 16 more Russian Universities will start the NKIM course in 2015 - 2016 Magister Diploma (MIPhI): “The development of the taxonomy for nuclear power plant instrumentation and control (I&C) systems based on the INIS Thesaurus” Baccalaureate Diploma (MFTI): “The INIS Database as a trusted & comprehensive source of historical information on nuclear energy development”

Issues Most frequent student questions during lectures about INIS: • Why “Legislative Material” and “Standard” are INIS Record Types as “Book” or “Journal article”? • What is the difference between “Audiovisual” and “Multimedia”? • Why INIS does not collect information about Web Encyclopedia and nuclear distance learning courses? • Why INIS does not collect information about Web nuclear information resources? • Why INIS is collecting PowerPoint presentations as NCL full-text? In most cases they are not informative.

  8. Issues May be it is time for us to revise “INIS Information” paradigm?

Availability of INIS via Google Scholar is real breakthrough and at least Russian users can say about INIS renaissance INIS plays important role for Russian «nuclear» students and young researchers & scientists INIS made tremendous contribution into the nuclear information worldand it would be good to organize special event in 2015 to celebrate 45th anniversary of INIS INIS There are some issues to be discussed and we are requesting for organizing the INIS Technical Meeting INIS Community has capacity to be more proactive Conclusions
