~~INTRODUCTION~~Tuen Mun, a place in Hong Kong which has been developed 25 years ago. At first, Tuen Mun is only a place with lots of fishing populations and fishing boats. People travel to other places by carriage, jinrikisha, etc. only. They mainly get a living by growing crops, fishing or rearing animals. Today, Tuen Mun has become a satellite city. Its population is rising speedy. People mainly work in offices, factories or others. They travel with public transportation. It also has lots of famous places for tourists too.In this project, we would like to introduce some recreational facilities or places in Tuen Mun to you. We hope that people can recognise more about Tuen Mun. To reach this target, we will travel to different special places in Tuen Mun and try our best to collect the informations.
~~INTERVIEW~~ On 7th of May, our group went out and do interview with 81 citizens who lives in Tuen Mun. The following pages are the result which had been tidy up.
The Tuen Mun Park The Tuen Mun Park, covering a total area of about 12.5 hectares, is the first major park in the New Territories that provides a wide range of facilities. It consists of 2 phases, Phase I was open to the public on 29.8.1985 while Phase II was open on 2.1.1991. The park is situated in the town center of Tuen Mun District and in the vicinity of Tuen Mun Town Hall, Tuen Mun Public Library and the terminal of the West Rail.
Built on reclamation land, the park provides a restful place with mass of greenery to the residents of Tuen Mun as well as visitors over the territory. There are more than 2,000 trees and 100,000 shrubs of about 200 various species planted in the park.Apart from the landscape features and beautiful environment that make one feel cheerful and relaxed, the park has an artificial lake where boating and water cycling activities can take place.
The Reptile House The Reptile House, which is located in the southern part of the park, is another major vantage point that attracts most visitors. Other facilities in the park include water cascade, model boat pool, amphitheatre, roller-skating rink, children's playground and multi-game area etc. All in all, the park is an ideal leisure haunt for the visitors to have a day's fun there.
Yan Oi Tong better life to the society” ,they provide right , teach , medical and recreation for people , their services spread over Tuen Mun , Yuen Long , Tai Po, Sha Tin, Tsuen Wan, Quai Tsing , Chuen Qun O , Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui etc.
Tuen Mun Town Plaza Since 1988, Tuen Mun Town Plaza has been noted as the largest shopping mall in the Northwest New Territories. Its diverse range of merchandise and its unique marketing and promotional programmes attract customers from far and wide.The Sino Group has recently invested more than HK$100 million on a complete renovation and refurbishment, thus keeping Tuen Mun Town Plaza at the top of the list as the premier retail property in this part of the New Territories. The plaza welcomes more than 280,000 customers each day, and the number is expected to grow substantially.
The plaza is in the heart of the Tuen Mun Central District. It can easily be reached via pedestrian skybridges from all major buildings and residential apartments in the centre of town. Immediate transport links include the light rail, buses and the Tuen Mun Ferry. Refurbished in a contemporary Californian decor, Tuen Mun Town Plaza is sure to enlarge its reputation as the lively hub of the community.Shopping is always a pleasure at Tuen Mun Town Plaza.
With more than 800,000 sq. ft. extending over five storeys, the mall offers more than 300 boutiques, bistros, cafes and specialty shops, providing a wide range of shopping, dining and entertainment choices for the whole family.The main atrium on the first floor forms the largest exhibition hall in the New Territories. With an area of more than 10,000 sq. ft. and a ceiling height of 60 ft, this venue is ideal for a wide variety of interesting programmes, exhibitions and promotional events.
Jusco Department Store on the upper ground and first floors offers 160,000 sq. ft. of exciting fashion and specialty merchandise, supported by an Asian Supermarket and an Asian inspired food court. Shop till you drop at The Fashion Pavilion on the first and second floor - a dazzling range of fashion products from Europe, Japan, and South East Asia in over 60 vibrant boutiques.
Tuen Mun Golf Centre Tuen Mun Golf CentreCovering an area of 43 200 square metres, the Tuen Mun Golf Centre, which was commissioned on 26 February 1995, is the first public golf driving range in Hong Kong. The major facilities of the Golf Centre include a 2-storey driving range with 91 bays, practice greens and bunker facilities. Other facilities include a booking office, a teaching room, a pro shop, a general restaurant, changing rooms, children's playgrounds and a carpark. Individuals or groups may apply for use of the golf driving facilities during opening hours. Besides, the Centre also offers golf training courses of different levels and related programmes each month for public participation.
Managed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the Tuen Mun Public Riding School is the largest public riding facility in Hong Kong. It occupies an area of 35 800 square metres and was commissioned on 4 January 1994. The Tuen Mun Public Riding School Facilities in the School include offices, lecture rooms, a horse paddock and two pony paddocks, a stable which can accommodate 60 horses and ponies, changing rooms and a carpark. The School provides a wide variety of activities, such as group training classes, horse riding, taking a horse at livery, visits and riding competitions, etc. to promote the equestrian sport.
Archery Range cum Gateball CourtThe The Archery Range cum Gateball Court occupies a site of 4 700 square metres next to the Tuen Mun Public Riding School. It was open for public use on 1 May 1995. This dual-purpose facility can serve as an archery range with a shooting distance of 70 metres long or three gateball courts for groups or individual to hire.
The Adventure Park, measuring 20 000 square metres in size, was open for public use on 1 May 1995. The major facilities provided include an 6 meter width and 9 meter height outdoor sport climbing wall with overhang constructed on half of its upper surface; a 14-stations rope course with lower and upper section with highest level of 7 meter from ground; The Adventure Park and a children playground. Organizations or individual are welcomed to hire the sport climbing wall and rope course for training purposes.
The Tuen Mun Town Hall The Tuen Mun Town Hall is a well-equipped cultural complex managed by the department. Conveniently located in the heart of Tuen Mun and effectively served by a motorway network connecting all parts of the district as well as Yuen Long, Tsuen Wan and Kowloon, the Town Hall is the centre for cultural activities and performing arts in northwest New Territories.
To cope with Tuen Mun's rapid development, the Town Hall has been continually enhancing its facilities,improving its services and dedicating itself to promote the cultural activities in the region, with a vision to bringing to the local community a vibrant cultural milieu.
The facilities in the Tuen Mun Public Library include the Adult Lending Library, theChildren's Library, the Reference Library, the Multimedia Library, the Newspapers and periodicals Section, The Tuen Mun Public Library the Extension Activities Room, the Student's Study Room, the Computer and Information Centre and the Coffee Corner
There are also many services in the Tuen Mun Public Library. Thay are: Lending Service Reference Service, Reservation and Inter-library Loan Audio-visual Service, Newspapers and Periodicals Service, Block Loan Service, Readers, Computer Facilities for the Blind and the Visually Impaired Internet and Multimedia Serviceand the Outreach Programmes Multimedia Information System Service
~~Conclusion~~ With our hard working, our project has been finished during this two weeks. In this project, we have introduced lots of the recreational facilities in Tuen Mun. After these two weeks, we had learned many skills. For example, how to do interview, search for the information, make classification, doing power point and presentation. But the most important things are that we have make up a friendship. Also, we had known where people would go in holidays and what improvements should the government does for Tuen Mun facilities. Finally, we would like to say thank you to our teacher advisor, Miss Yip, and all people who help us before.
