  3. What does an engineer do? • Designs • Plans • Works as part of a team – collaborates • Thinks – what do people need/ want/safety • Creates – many different ideas • Makes prototypes • Tests prototypes • Amends designs

  4. K’nex Fairground Attractions • Aims • Work in teams - • to build a moving fairground attraction • in a set time • to a specific plan

Engineering Skills • Teamwork • Using each person’s strengths • Picking the best person for each task • Checking your own and others’ work • Working with people of different ages • Cooperating with others • Working under pressure • Working to a time schedule • Selecting correct materials for a job • Understanding instructions • Working to a plan

Person’s responsibilities • Project manager • Overall responsibility to make sure that all the teams are performing their tasks • Team leader • Make sure everyone in your team is taking part • Task manager • Make sure the parts have been put together correctly • Resources manager • Make sure all the correct parts have been selected and that none get lost

  10. Build your own fairground ride • Work in pairs • Only use the pieces in your box • Complete by 3pm • 3pm-3.10pm- set up as a display • 3.10-3.25 EVALUATION • S5/6 • one person per group of S1 • help them plan their design –monitor their progress
