Preliminaries • Respond to the following prompt: “Though our culture does not have an official code of behavior, we still have written and unwritten ideas about human behavior. What kinds of behavior codes does our culture have? Explain your response.”
Objectives: • The students will be able to identify at least 5 elements in “The Code of Chivalry”. • The students will be able to summarize the legend of King Arthur with at least 75% accuracy.

Focus Lesson: Chivalry… • Small Groups • Compare and contrast the traits of Sir Kay and Arthur (e.g., Sir Kay sends Arthur back to get his sword, Arthur cannot locate the sword, but dutifully finds and provides another). • How does Sir Kay serve as a foil to Arthur (Elements, TE, p. 646, “Direct Teaching,” “D”)? • How do Arthur’s actions serve to define and demonstrate chivalry?
Homework • Continue reading books and taking QNQs. • Sir Gawain: list at least 3 ways in which Sir Gawain follows the Code of Chivalry (due next class for 10 homework points).
