Market Overview – Defence/Security Sector • Egypt is the second-largest recipient of US military aid totalling approximately US$1.29bn annually • Egypt's military manufacturing base benefits from co-production deals with US multinational firms. It produces a variety of trainer aircraft, alongside armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs), artillery pieces, surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) and M1A1 Abrams tanks • The multinational presence in Egypt largely takes the form of US JVs and FMS contracts • Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell, and BAE Systems retain sales representation within Egypt • Egypt was the fourth-largest recipient of arms deliveries among developing countries in 2005, with imports worth approximately US$1.5bn www.ukti.gov.uk

Insurance & Legal Obligations:Fire – Safety – Security • Law No 101 of 1996 obliges all buildings to have fire alarm systems in place as well as automatic fire extinguishers, and alarm panels for larger projects • Most commercial buildings are not generally obliged to install security equipment. However, Governmental, industrial, and tourist sites are legally obliged to install security systems • Fire insurance is not so popular among residential property owners • There is a 60% premium offered by insurance companies if buildings are protected by fire protection systems • March 2008, the Minister of Trade and Industry announced a decree to oblige Industrial buildings to apply HSE system according to the international specifications (18001).   13. Overview on Doing Business in The Security Sector • Government procurement is governed by Law 85/1998, which declares that state contracting must be by public tenders. Offers must be submitted through Egyptian agents.
