  2. What is the Infinitive? • A verb that is yet to be changed • To sing, to dance to work • In Spanish, there are: • Ar verbs, such as ayudar (to help) • Er verbs, such as leer (to read • Ir verbs, such as abrir (to open)

  3. ar Verbs: The I form - Yo • To change an "ar" verb to the "I" form, all you do is take the "ar" out of the verb and change it for an "o” • Bailar – To dance • Yobailo • Cantar – To sing • Yo canto • Dibujar – To draw • Yodibujo • Note: You do not have to say “yo” – You can say, instead: • Bailo, or Canto, or Dibujo

You Informal – He – She – You Formal Tú, Él, Ella, Usted • To change an "ar" verb to the "you (Informal)" form • Take the "ar" out of the verb and change it for an "as“ • Túayudas – You help (ayudar) • Túcantas – You sing (cantar) • To change an "ar" verb to the "he/she/you (formal)" form • Take the "ar" out of the verb and change it for an "a“ • Élbaila – He dances (bailar) • Ella dibuja – She draws (dibujar) • Ustedtrabaja – You work (trabajar)

  5. More on "Él" or "Ella" • You can change "Él" or "Ella" for a name: • Juan habla ingles • Juan speaks English • Veronica termina la tarea • Veronica finishes her homework

  6. REMINDERS When you are talking about yourself, do not have to say the pronoun. For Example: You can say, Lavo la ropa, instead of Yolavo la ropa (I wash the clothes).

  7. Think About This …. Other ways to use verbs would be: El estudiante no estudia – El estudiante = Él *** Notice the Él, with an accent is “he”, but without the accent, it means "the."

  8. Some Sentences • Does she sing? ¿Canta ella? • Does Paulina help around the house? ¿Ayuda en la casa Paulina? • Él habla español - He speaks Spanish • Ella trabaja en un restaurante - She works at a restaurant • Usted canta - You (formal) sing • El patina - He skates

More Sentences! • Usted estudia matemáticas - You (formal) study math • Catalina baila bien - Catalina dances well • Pedro necesita el libro de ciencias - Pedro needs the science book • Usted toca el piano - You (formal) play the piano • ¿Trabaja mucho él? - Does he work much? • ¿Escucha música Isabel? - Does Isabel listen to music?
