Endangered animals In Africa, there are lots of endangered species. These include: The Ethiopian Wolf, Black Rhinoceros, Cheetah, Chimpanzee, Rodrigues Fruit Bat, Gorilla, Leopard, Malagasy Giant Jumping Rat, Tiger and lots more. Endangered means that an animals population has dropped drastically and there are not enough adults left to breed and this means it could become extinct. Some endangered species have been protected either through being put into captivity or a temporary law put in place against them being poached.
IUCN Red List IUCN stands for the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The IUCN Red List of threatened species is widely recognised as the best way to decide how threatened a species is. The Red List classifies animals between least concern to extinct. The categories they sort the animals into are: • least concern • near threatened • vulnerable • endangered • critically endangered • extinct in the wild • extinct
WWF WWF is a charity that helps endangered species. WWF was created in 1961 and is now one of the biggest environmental organisations. WWF used to stand for World Wildlife Fund but has now been changed to World Wide Fund for Nature. WWF helps endangered species by: encouraging people to adopt an endangered animal by sending a small donation every month which will be used to help the species, putting the animal into captivity or putting in place a temporary law against them being poached. WWF is a charity that helps animals from all around the world including Africa.
