Phase I Proposal We requested $750 in August to support 3 key areas: • Outreach ($250) • Social Activities ($250) • Corporate and Faculty Networking ($250)
Where is the money? • Much to our chagrin, the Phase I support check was only recently deposited. • However, we do not believe that this will affect our plans for this semester because the semester has only recently started. • We have not spent any of the money yet but we have concrete plans for several events that fall into the areas for which we requested support.
Outreach • EDAM - Engineering Day at the Museum is an outreach program that is coordinated with the Austin Children Museum • February 14th, 10AM-5PM • We will be using the outreach-earmarked portion of our Phase I support to buy supplies for some basic circuit-building exercises (batteries, resistors, LEDs, wires...) • Other options in the works: • Engineering Saturdays • Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
Social Activities • Last semester we had a successful social event with the UT branch of Society of Women Engineers (SWE) • Due to the success of that event for both organizations, we plan to repeat the event this semester • Phase I support to be used for food and drinks • We also have a "Frag-A-Thon" (LAN Party) scheduled as one of IEEE's activities during E-Week • Phase I funds will go towards prizes and other awards. • "Broomball" with Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) • Competitive, social sporting event played against the ECE honor society • Phase I support to be used for equipment and other fees
Corporate & Faculty Networking • The Branch generally covers meeting expenses thanks to the generosity of our corporate sponsors. • So, some CTS funds may be used for miscellaneous meeting expenses, but not a large amount. • One of the goals of the Branch is to help interest students in research in our own department. • We usually try to do this through lunch presentations, but few corporations are interested in funding research presentations for which they are not the focus. • Therefore, we plan on using the majority of the earmarked $250 to start a series of faculty research presentations.
