How hold the padle • The game of table tennis started as an after-dinner game for upper-class Victorians in the 1800s. Now it is a popular game that is played either professionally or for fun among friends. Before you try your hand at table tennis, you should know how to hold your tennis paddle. The shakehands grip--named for the resemblance it has to shaking someone's hand--is the most basic of the table tennis grips and can be used for both forehand and backhand tennis strokes.
