Published standards • 42 of total 79 standards are relevant to contractors • 13 of 42 standards shall be applied by contractors (if required by client in contract or national authorities), dealing with track machines (WG 5), welding (WG 4), safety (WG 39), qualification of contractors (WG 34) and partly trackwork acceptance (WG 21) • Full list of all standards is in the report and those relevant to contractors are marked by yellow • In general, standards are in voluntary domain but those declared by EC as “harmonized” consist parts which are mandatory under the European legislation • A Harmonised Standard provides a presumption of conformity with the essential requirements of Directives EFRTC GM, Zurich, 27.05.2011
TC 256/SC 1 restructuring • Change of the title to CEN/TC 256/SC 1 “Railway applications / Infrastructure” (Infrastructure instead of Track) • Definition of the scope as follows: • Standardisation on general requirements for infrastructure design, installation and maintenance (bridges and tunnels are excluded). • The standards also cover materials, components, assemblies, works and machines associated with railway infrastructure • Link to the new CEN TC 256 structure as valid from 01.02.2011 10.3_CEN TC 256 structure.pdf EFRTC GM, Zurich, 27.05.2011
