  2. Housing Coastal Indians Plateau Indians Made tepees. Made form straw and wood. Since they couldn’t find much wood they had to use what they had. Also built houses near a source of food they could eat. • Made longhouses • Made from cedar bark • Got bark from splitting trees apart • Certain wood grows in different places so they used whatever wood they could use • And depending on food the type of house varies on tribe.

Geography influenced what they used because they had to use what they got Clothing Coastal Indians Plateau Indians • Men wore breechcloths and leggings • Covered themselves with blankets • Women wore dresses when they were old • They didn’t have trees so they used twigs • Men wore breechcloths • Women wore dresses • Women only wore dresses when they were old enough • In the warmer months, men went naked and women wore a bare dress • They used cedar bark because only people of high rank wore fur capes
