Three-part form • Musical form which includes three sections • ABA form • A – Statement • B – Contrast • A - Restatement • A sections are usually in closed construction • B section creates a need to return to A section
Expanded ternary form • Three-part form can be expanded to include repetitions of any section • May include repeat signs or may simply rewrite the repeated section • Three-part form can also be expanded with the use of transitions from one section to another or a Coda at the end of the final A section
Rounded binary form • Combination of binary and ternary forms • Both sections are repeated • A theme is repeated at the end of the B section
