‘Relationships during the Recovery/Rehabilitation Program’ • Introduction: As a student of CQUniversity my industry placement will commence on the 9th April at the Brisbane Recovery Service Centre. This is a rehabilitation centre and I shall be involved in developing a health promotion program that focuses on building healthy relationships with self and others and looks at ways to prevent negative relationships during the recovery period. • Aim of the Industry Placement: To plan, implement and evaluate a health promotion program ‘Relationships during Recovery/Rehabilitation’ Clip Art 2013 Arguments, couples, disagreements
Entry into the organisation • Duration of Placement: 1 to 2 days a week over 2 terms 25-30 days over the designated time frame 9th April – 10th September 2013 Work Schedule: Tuesdays / Wednesdays 8.30am to 4.30pm • Background of the Industry: ‘Moonyah’ is a residential drug, alcohol and gambling recovery service centre for men and women located in Brisbane. The Salvation Army ‘Bridge Program’ provides spiritual, emotional, mental and physical support to people affected by addiction. The program challenges, supports and encourages residents to an opportunity of recovery from addiction and reintegration into society (The Salvation Army 2011).
Assessing the priority population • Risk Factors: The genetic, behavioural and environmental health determinants associated with relationships during rehabilitation have been shown to be • Death related situations Reintroduction to past dependence Removal from health programs (Brisbane Recovery Services ‘Moonyah’ 2013). • Validating the Need: The manager, program director and committee members have recognised a health related issue and validated the need for a relationship program that enhances the self esteem of the residents and empowers self confidence and wholeness that can build on healthy relationships and existing relationships and prevent unhealthy relationships (Brisbane Recovery Services ‘Moonyah’ 2013).
Health Promotion Program • Professional Goals and Objectives: I would like to combine similar communication models and include health intervention strategies when planning, implementing and evaluating this health promotion program. • Describe and analyse the problem • Plan and develop an intervention • Plan evaluation • Implement plan • Evaluate and modify (McKenzie, Neiger & Thackeray 2009) • Principle duties: Engage with health professionals to undertake a health promotion program. I shall be a member of the planning committee and allocated a desk, I shall participate in staff meetings, I shall be an observer during group sessions, I shall be self directed and self motivated and I shall be working with case workers, social workers and the program director.
