NEPAD Agency’s Advocacy Roles • A CAADP framework - 4 pillars • University of Zambia and CILSS, supported by the TerrAfrica Partnership, jointly coordinated development of the Pillar 1 Framework • Conference of Ministers of Agriculture in West and Central Africa (CMA/WCA) on the Pillar II framework; • University of KwaZulu Natal and CILSS on Pillar III framework; • FARA on the Pillar IV Framework. • RECs & SROs mobilized in support of Regional Investment Plans in Agriculture NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency
Advocacy Roles – pillar lead institutions • Provide technical assistance to countries to help them for successful incorporation of pillar frameworks into agric investment plans • develop clear mechanisms with which to understand and respond to country information-knowledge needs in CAADP implementation • Identify and develop practical and systemic arrangements to nurture and sustain capacity and expertise based on and linked to existing Knowledge Centres NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency
Advocacy Roles – implement policy • NEPAD Agency has been advocating for full implementation of Maputo Declaration • Increased public expenditure (10% of budget) • Involvement of private investors • Coordination in Development Partners’ actions • Greater involvement of the Civil Society • CAADP Compacts signed in 20 of SSA countries NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency
