Community Development Values • Social Justice • Self Determination • Working and learning together • Sustainable communities • Participation • Reflective Practice
The Journey • New member of staff • Worked with the Trustees to identify priorities • Recognised opportunities for service delivery to meet the growing unmet needs in the community • At the peak turnover of £850,000 and around 40 staff • Last year £650k and 25 staff
Funding Streams • Big Lottery • Town Council • Commissions to deliver services • Housing Associations • NHS South Gloucestershire • Police Commissioner • Charitable trusts and foundations
In 2013 we updated our values • We all have the right to a future that enables us to reach our potential • Everyone has the right to be fully involved in society and in decisions that affect them • With rights come responsibilities • Discrimination always needs to be challenged • Different people and cultures are able to appreciate each other and live together harmoniously • We all need to be involved in protecting our environment for future generations • We all learn and develop through our life experiences • Through working and learning together we can make the best use of limited resources
Continuous reflection and improvement • PQASSO Level 1 June 2012 • Reviewed organisational structure with a Director and Leadership Team • Clarified Theory of Change • Putting in place social auditing • New trustees October 2013 • CIO from April 2014
Implications for the organisation • Now running a small business and trustees have the skills for this • Diversified income streams and income generation • Increased accountability to funders and service users • Development of service user forum • Increased value in partnerships
However ... • Community development principles still drive our work • Our aim is that in years to come “people will look back and say look what we’ve achieved” ... Not “look what’s been done to us” Cormack Russell- (Asset Based Community Development Institute)
