Sonic Drilling Applications in Micropiles
What is a Sonic Drill? A drilling system that uses the principle of resonance to drill a hole and install a casing in practically any type of ground. Basically, the drill head is a variable frequency generator that imparts resonant energy to the drill string.
Sonic Drill Features A Sonic Drill… • Is capable of installing casing up to 12” in diameter, in practically any material. • Provides a relatively undisturbed core sample over the entire length of the hole • Drills dry – no drilling mud necessary
Sonic Samples Till 6” Granite
Sonic Drill Features A Sonic Drill… • Produces very little cuttings, which significantly reduces disposal costs • Can be track, wheel, skid, barge, or rail mounted. • Is modular in design – for helicopter work
Rail System Boston Tunnel Project
Sonic Drill Features A Sonic Drill… • Can be wheeled through a 42 inch doorway • Can drill under an 8-foot ceiling • Can be adapted to diamond core or air drill using a down-hole hammer • Can use oil-field tubing, of various thread forms and pipe lengths
