  3. Stage 1: Historical Events Description: 1. The life, death and resurrection of Jesus(Strauss) 2. Jesus Christ-living in Palestine(Hendrickx) Methodology: Historical Jesus research-to determine historical facts behind the earliest traditions

  4. Stage 2: Oral Tradition Description: • When Jesus’ disciples passed down the stories of his words and actions. These stories took various “forms,” or genres, including miracle stories, parables, pronouncement stories, and others.(Strauss) 2. Formation of first christian community inside and outside palestine after the resurrection. (Hendrickz) Methodology: Form Criticism

Stage 3: The written tradition Description: When the early church began putting this material into various written forms for the following purpose: Teaching, evangelism, and to retain a faithful record of the words and deeds of Jesus.(Strauss) 2. When the evangelists started to write the Gospels.(Hendrickx) Methodology: Source Criticism

  6. Stage 4: The Gospels Description: The evangelists took the various written and oral sources available to them and produced the Gospels. Methodology: Redaction criticism and other literary methods
