  3. Internal troubles Basil had to face the powerful Byzantine aristocracy in his early years. He defeated them decisively Strengthened the middle class, which provided soldiers for his armies and taxpayers for his treasury After his initial troubles he reigned supreme with no challenges at home

  4. HIS CORONATION

  5. Wars Mulsims in the east: with a series of Victories he succeeded in gaining more territory than any Byzantine monarch since the Muslim expansion in the 7th c. In the West he scored victories against the Slavs Decisive victory against king Samuel of Bulgaria (1014 Kleidion) He even got a foothold in Italy, for the first time since the era of Justinian Alliance with Vladimir of Kiev and Christianization of Russia.
