Three Critical Things to Remember... • Be clear, concise and convincing in your writing. • Emphasize Impact…don’t tell us how the money will benefit you… tell us how (by giving you the funds) your organization or project will benefit the community/intended audience. • Focus your language on Deliverables – your outcomes (what you want to achieve) and your outputs (what you will do to achieve this)

Project Narrative: Statement of Need Project Grants: Operating Grants:
“Encourage the creation of new and innovative cultural heritage initiatives” • This project combines the techniques and intellectual resources of cultural resource managers, archaeologists, historians, genealogists, and resident volunteers to create an accurate record of cultural resources under the St. Paul's church hall. This multi-disciplinary approach provides resource managers with the base-line information that enables them to review and monitor activities that affect cultural resources and their presentation.
“Enhance the reputation of the City of Kingston as a community where history and innovation thrive” • This project will bring positive media attention to an important cultural resource that is unknown to all but the most knowledgeable local historian. It will enhance Kingston`s reputation as a community that pays attention to its invisible past by increasing the awareness of the "lost" burial ground, a place where people such as Mohawk matriarch Molly Brant (and many of her descendants), Sir Richard Bonnycastle, and political and business leaders are buried alongside slaves brought by the UELs after the American Revolution and American prisoners from the War of 1812.
“create awareness and civic pride in our history and heritage” • CofK Objective iii – Create: To create awareness of Kingston’s history, the museum is undertaking an exhibition renewal, enabling the museum to educate both locals and tourists about the history of the Tower, the Fortifications, and the city. The Tower is dedicated to caring for the tangible Kingston artefacts in its collection with a view of preservation and display. By making the panels and artefacts accessible, the museum can reach a wider audience and foster pride for the city and the heritage of Kingston.
“develop the means of organizing, collecting, and interpreting Kingston’s stories, both tangible and intangible, and engaging the community at all levels of the process” • CHSO Objective v – Develop: The end of 2018 will see year two of the three-year exhibit renewal complete. The plan organizes and interprets the unique history of the Tower, and its place in Kingston’s story. There are plans to include a panel discussing the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee use of the land surrounding the Tower and to include what life would have been like for the Tower’s inhabitants, both military and civilian. This will aid the Tower’s future interpretation and engagement with the public.
Project Narrative: Workplan • What Results or Outcomes do you expect from your project? Outcomes should be SMART: • S (pecific) • M (easurable) • A (chievable) • R (ealistic) • T (imely)
Here are four sample types of objectives: Behavioral means that a human action is anticipated. • Example: Fifty of the 70 children participating will learn to swim. Performancerefers to a specific time frame within which a behavior will occur, at an expected proficiency level. • Example: Fifty of the 70 children will learn to swim within six months and will pass a basic swimming proficiency test administered by a Red Cross-certified lifeguard.
Process describes the manner in which something occurs is an end in itself. • Example: We will document the teaching methods utilized, identifying those with the greatest success. Productobjective is where a tangible item results. • Example: A manual will be created to be used in teaching swimming to this age and proficiency group in the future.

Follow up: Terms and Conditions…. • Must acknowledge City of Kingston and KAM in all promotional materials (logos) • Interim Report • Final Report (including Financials)
Follow up: Terms and Conditions…. • You are required to sign a Declaration on your Application form • You are required to sign a Grant Agreement upon acceptance of your Grant allocation…you will receive a Grant Package with all relevant documents.
Timelines for 2019-2020 • Application intake June to September 2019 • Jurying September to October 2019 • Ratification by KAM Board in October 2019 • Ratification by Council in December 2019 • Funds issued in January 2020 • Interim Reports due by July 15th 2020 • Projects completed by December 2020 • Final reports due by March 15th 2021.
