Four cores of credibility Competence Character
Credibility = 4 Cores together Competence Character
Example BehaviorCreate Transparency Behavior Tell the truth in a way people can verify. get real and genuine. Be open and authentic. err on the side of disclosure. Operate on the premise of, "What you see is what you get." Don't have hidden agendas. Don't hide information Opposite To hide, cover up, obscure, or make dark. Counterfeit – (The most difficult part) Having hidden agendas, hidden meanings, or hidden objectives. Creating illusion, pretending, "seeming" rather than "being," making things appear different than they are. Withholding information. “Trust happens when leaders are transparent.” – Jack Welch
Example BehaviorConfront Reality Behavior Take issues head on, even the "undiscussables," Address the tough stuff directly. Acknowledge the unsaid. Lead out courageously in conversation. Don't skirt the real issues. Don't bury your head in the sand. Opposite To ignore reality or act as though it doesn't exit. To live in fantasy. Counterfeit Pretending to confront reality but actually evading it, focusing attention on side issues while skirting the real issues. The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality.“ - Max DepreeCEO, Herman Miller

Implementation • Trust always starts with me. • Be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of my four cores. • Know my strengths and weaknesses with the 13 Trust Behaviors. • Work on one core each quarter. • Openly discuss and work on one Trust Behavior each week. (13 X 4 = 52) • Internalize the Trust Behavior in project communications (emails, discussions, memos, etc.) • Develop and follow trust action plans for each wave. • Mentor others on my strengths. • Allow myself to be mentored by others on my weaknesses. • Give the world someone they can better trust.
