  1. SWWT & Space Environments and Effects Network of Technical Competences (SEENoTC) Interactions Glover, A. Hilgers, E. Daly M. Hapgood, A. Sicard, K. Ryden

  2. Overview of SEENoTC Responsibilities • Goals: • to reinforce the coordination of existing and planned space environments and effects related activities in Europe, • implementation of a coherent European programme of activities in the domain, • Domain: • energetic particle radiation and its effects on systems, payloads and humans; • natural and induced plasma environments and their interactions with spacecraft, and resulting effects on systems and payloads • Explicitly excluded are space debris, micrometeoroid and thermal environments. • Explicitly included are space weather effects on spacecraft (and launchers)

  3. Organisation • Working Group • National representatives responsible for collecting inputs from communities • Responsible for drawing up roadmaps and identifying areas for coordination and financial support • SWWT Chairman is a member of the WG, responsible for making recommendations from this community. AG deputises where MH is unavailable. • Steering Board • National representatives from agencies and funding bodies • Approve roadmaps annually • Report to THAG (Technology Harmonisation Advisory Group) which reports to ESA’s IPC (Industrial Policy Committee) • Aims to really organise activities at a European level & not just provide forum for information exchange • Limited annual budget available to support activities that build on the main coordination goals of the network

  4. Current Membership • Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, UK, Eurospace. Other member states have expressed interest (…) • Several current representatives on SEENoTC WG also involved in SWWT • Formal liaisons with: SWWT, SPINE, RWG and GEANT-4 • See: http://space-env.esa.int/seenotc-intro.html

  5. Current Example Roadmap Items of Relevance for SWWT • Modelling: • …. • Tools: • .... • Monitoring • ….

  6. SWWT Interaction and Recommendations • Need to clarify best means of interaction between SWWT and SEENoTC WG • SLA Envt. Topical group forms a logical focus for: • highlighting SEENoTC relevant activities (in all member states) • making recommendations for studies/issues SEENoTC should adopt as part of workplans • promotion of SEENoTC in member states that have not yet agreed to join the network (possibly through lack of visibility of activities at working level) • In addition, broader SWWT activities also of interest e.g. EU/FP proposals with space weather effects on s/c relevance • SEENoTC WG meets 4x/year plus 1 topical workshop • SWWT report at each meeting: put together by MH and SLA-TG (AS & KR)
