  2. Question • What are the Ten Commandments? • Are they guidelines? • Are they rules to live by? • Can we obey them? • What if we only break one or two? • Doesn’t it prove I am a good person, afterall I never killed anyone?

  3. 1st Commandment • Exodus 20:3: "You shall have no other gods before me” • God and only He should be everyone’s God • Isaiah 45:5  I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God.

  4. 2nd Commandment • Exodus 20:4-5: "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; • Do not worship creation or anything man-made • Isaiah 42:8 "I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.

  5. 3rd Commandment • Exodus 20:7: “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.” • Showing God disrespect through words or thoughts

  6. 4th Commandment • Exodus 20-8-11: “"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. • Rest and honor God on the seventh day • Isaiah 45:5  I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God.

  7. 5th Commandment • Exodus 20:12: "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.” • Respect and obey your parents

  8. 6th Commandment • Exodus 20:13: "You shall not murder.” • Do not kill anyone • Matthew 5:21-22:"You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder,[a] and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' 22But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brotherwill be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca, is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

  9. 7th Commandment • Exodus 20:14: "You shall not commit adultery.” • No sexual relationships with anyone other than your husband or wife • Matthew 5:27-28 "You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.'But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

  10. 8th Commandment • Exodus 20:15: "You shall not steal.” • Do not take anything that does not belong to you. • Does not matter the size or value of the object you took its still a sin.

  11. 9th Commandment • Exodus 20:16: "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.” • Do not lie • Isaiah 45:5  I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God.

  12. 10th Commandment • Exodus 20:17: "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." • You should not want what other people have.

  13. So, how did you do at keeping the Ten Commandments?

  14. What if you only think your broke a couple of them? • James 2:9-11 But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. For he who said, "Do not commit adultery,“ also said, "Do not murder."If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.
